Bettiah: A tragic incident unfolded in Bihar’s Bettiah when a tiger attack claimed the life of a local resident. The event occurred in the Vanbaria village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Sahodra police station. The victim has been identified as Indradev Mahato, a long-time resident of Vanbaria village. On the fateful day, Indradev Mahato had ventured into the fields to graze his goats, completely unaware that danger was lurking nearby.
The attack took place within the Manguraha forest area, part of the Valmiki Tiger Reserve, casting a shadow of fear and panic over the entire village. As soon as Indradev entered the field, he was ambushed by the tiger. In a harrowing turn of events, the tiger dragged him approximately 200 meters into a nearby sugarcane field. When villagers became aware of the attack, they quickly armed themselves with sticks and rushed to the scene. Their collective efforts forced the tiger to abandon Indradev’s body and retreat into the forest.
Subsequently, Indradev Mahato’s family and other villagers conducted a thorough search and eventually recovered his body from the sugarcane field. The atmosphere in Vanbaria village remains tense and filled with anxiety.
Confirming the incident, Forest Conservation Officer Neshamani stated that a tiger was indeed responsible for the attack. The forest department has since launched an extensive search operation to locate the tiger. Meanwhile, the villagers remain gripped by fear, wary of another possible encounter with the wild animal.
The local authorities and forest department are working together to ensure the safety of the villagers while attempting to track down the rogue tiger. The incident has highlighted the pressing need for improved measures to manage human-wildlife conflicts in areas adjacent to wildlife reserves.
