Srinagar, September 12: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) J&K is hosting an extensive Inter-District/UT Level Badminton Competition for boys and girls across all age categories at the renowned Indoor Sports Complex in Srinagar. This significant event has become a magnet for young badminton enthusiasts from every corner of the Union Territory, with teams from all 20 districts of Jammu & Kashmir taking part in the competition.
The tournament is structured in phases and kicked off on Thursday with the Under-14 boys’ category. As the excitement builds, the Under-17 boys have also taken to the courts, showcasing their skills and sportsmanship. This thrilling tournament will reach its grand conclusion on the 28th of this month.
The event’s inauguration was graced by Mohammad Rashid Kohli, Joint Director Kashmir of the Department of YSS, who led a formal ceremony at the venue. Senior officials from the Department of Youth Services and Sports were present, underscoring the event’s importance. In his remarks, Kohli lauded the dedication and enthusiasm of the young participants, stressing the crucial role such competitions play in fostering a sports culture at the grassroots level.
“The enthusiasm and participation levels are truly commendable. These tournaments offer our youth, especially student players, a platform to showcase their athletic talents and cultivate a sense of sportsmanship and healthy competition,” Kohli commented during the opening ceremony. He highlighted that sports are essential for the physical and mental well-being of young athletes and encouraged participants to give their best effort in every match.
The District Youth Services and Sports Office, Srinagar, is ensuring that the tournament adheres to all necessary safety and health protocols to safeguard participants, officials, and spectators. The organizers have arranged for professional supervision of all matches, with trained referees and technical staff managing the events.
As the tournament moves forward, attention will soon shift to the upcoming matches for girls and the Under-19 category. These segments will offer more young athletes an opportunity to compete in advanced competitions. Spectators can expect electrifying performances as competition intensifies leading up to the finals.
