The film features an ensemble cast led by Angélica Vale, renowned for her role in “La Fea Más Bella,” along with Marisé Álvarez, known from “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” Karla Monroig, and Angelique Burgos. These talented actresses portray the Tiki Tikis, a group of lifelong friends who embark on an exhilarating girl’s trip across Puerto Rico. This journey, filled with action and adventure, becomes a transformative experience that deepens their friendship and reinforces their strong female bonds. It’s a voyage of discovery and growth that they never anticipated needing.
Sanchez, who also serves as a producer and singer, expressed her excitement about this project: “After many years of contemplating the possibility of writing and directing my own movies to transition into another phase of my career, this film is the beginning of an amazing dream that has now come to fruition. I’m incredibly honored to have such a wonderful cast and crew joining me on this venture. To write and direct a love letter to my Island of PR through the lens of comedy brings me so much joy.”
Puerto Rico offers a highly competitive film incentive program that includes a transferable tax credit amounting to 40% of local expenditures, including labor costs, and 20% of non-resident expenses. Additionally, there are extra bonuses available for local producers. In an effort to further stimulate film production on the island, the current Governor has allocated $74 million from the American Rescue Plan Act funds specifically for eligible film projects. “Diario, Mujer & Café” is one of the fortunate recipients of these grants.
Alongside Sanchez, the production team includes notable names such as Anne Clements, known for her work on “Quinceañera” and “Fantasy Island,” Paul Kampf from “Harvest” and “Satos,” Frances Lausell from “Fantasy Island” and “Undercard,” and Andres Ramirez, also from “Undercard.” The executive production team comprises Jessica Beltrán, Katia Reguero Lindor, Irmarie Marquez-Báez, Susan Henry, Anna Di Marco, and Manuel Cintron.
The key players in the film have strong representation: Sanchez is represented by Independent Artist Group and Alchemy Entertainment; Angélica Vale and Marisé Álvarez by DePaz Management; Karla Monroig by MM Latino Entertainment; and Angelique Burgos by RSB Entertainment.
This project not only highlights the vibrant culture and scenic beauty of Puerto Rico but also underscores the island’s commitment to fostering a thriving film industry through substantial incentives and financial support.
