In a landmark moment for Kuala Lumpur’s football history, Paulo Josue has cemented his place as the club’s all-time top goalscorer. The naturalised Brazilian maestro shattered Fandi Ahmad’s long-standing record of 67 goals by netting two crucial strikes in the City Boys’ emphatic 5-0 victory over Kedah during a Super League match held at the Cheras Football Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, September 14.

At 35 years old, Josue, who serves as both captain and playmaker for Kuala Lumpur, delivered an exceptional performance. He scored his record-breaking goals in the 49th and 58th minutes, bringing his total tally to an impressive 69 goals for the club. His leadership and skill were instrumental in guiding his team to a dominant win.

The other goals in this resounding triumph were contributed by Bosnian winger Jovan Motika, who opened the scoring in the 14th minute. The advantage was extended by an own goal from Kedah centre-back Hazrie Balqief Zulhadi in the 23rd minute. Midfielder Zhafri Yahya further solidified Kuala Lumpur’s lead with a goal in the 26th minute.

Josue has been a cornerstone for Kuala Lumpur since joining the team in 2017, and his elevation to captain in 2020 has only heightened his influence on and off the pitch. This victory propelled Kuala Lumpur to ninth place in the league standings with eight points accumulated from nine games. On the other hand, Kedah slipped down to 10th place, also with eight points.

In another thrilling Super League encounter on the same day, Perak stunned the home crowd by securing a narrow 1-0 win against Negri Sembilan at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi. The decisive goal came from Brazilian striker Clayton Silva, who found the back of the net in the 48th minute.

With this victory, Perak climbed to eighth place in the league, amassing nine points from eight games. Conversely, Negri Sembilan languished in 12th place with a meager four points.

These pivotal matches not only showcased individual brilliance but also significantly altered the dynamics of the Super League standings, making for an exciting season ahead.
