Seoul, Korea – The men’s doubles badminton duo, Seo Seung-jae and Kang Min-hyeok, both representing Samsung Life Insurance, have clinched a prestigious victory at the Hong Kong Open. This tournament is part of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Super 500 series, showcasing some of the world’s best talent.
Seo Seung-jae and Kang Min-hyeok, currently ranked 4th globally, delivered an impressive performance against the Indonesian pair Savar Gutama and Mo Isfahani, who are ranked 22nd in the world. The Korean duo secured their triumph with a decisive 2-0 win, posting scores of 21-13 and 21-17 in the final match of the men’s doubles at the 2024 Hong Kong Open, held at the iconic Hong Kong Coliseum on the 15th.
This victory is particularly significant as it marks their first international tournament win in approximately eight months, following their earlier success at the India Open in January this year. The achievement is a testament to their resilience and skill, especially after a series of challenging competitions.
Last year, Seo Seung-jae and Kang Min-hyeok celebrated a major milestone by winning the World Championship. However, their journey at the 2024 Paris Olympics ended in disappointment with a quarterfinal exit, dashing their hopes for an Olympic medal. Despite this setback, they demonstrated remarkable tenacity by finishing as runners-up at both the Japan Open last month and the Korea Open, which concluded on the 1st of this month. Their persistence paid off with a gold medal victory at the Hong Kong Open.
In the women’s doubles category, two Korean pairs also showcased commendable performances. Lee So-hee of Incheon International Airport and Baek Ha-na from MG Saemaul Geumgo, along with Kim So-young of Incheon International Airport and Kong Hee-yong from Jeonbuk Bank, both secured third-place finishes. Their achievements highlight the depth of talent and competitive spirit in Korean badminton.
