Visitors at this year’s St George’s Seafood Festival are in for a treat with a convenient ticketing system designed to streamline the purchase of food and beverages. This free event, organized by the Corporation of St George’s, will take place on September 15 at Ordnance Island, running from noon until 7pm.
Promising an engaging experience, the festival will feature a blend of familiar and new activities aimed at enhancing visitor enjoyment. For 2023, the Corporation of St George’s has partnered with the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce to manage event logistics and sponsorships. This collaboration aims to uplift the Town of St George by boosting local businesses within the restaurant and entertainment sectors.
One of the significant enhancements this year is the introduction of a ticketing system, which will simplify service and improve the overall event experience. Attendees can savor their favorite meals or sample diverse offerings from numerous vendors—a new feature that promises to delight food enthusiasts.
Tickets for food and beverages can be purchased either at the festival itself or in advance through the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce’s website at www.bermudachamber.bm. This initiative reflects the festival’s growing reputation as a source of local pride, celebrating the town’s rich maritime heritage.
The festival resonates deeply with St George’s history, dating back to the arrival of Sir George Somers and early settlers who depended on wild hogs and seafood for survival. A cherished tradition, the Sunday morning breakfast of codfish and potatoes, now considered a culinary delicacy, continues to be shared with both residents and visitors.
Attendees can look forward to an array of activities including demonstrations by renowned seafood chefs showcasing their culinary skills. Popular snack vendors offering a variety of treats, live entertainment, and children’s activities will add to the vibrant atmosphere.
Quinell Francis, Mayor of St George, highlighted that the festival was initially developed in collaboration with the Bermuda Tourism Association and the Corporation of St George’s. The aim was to create an event that could stand alongside national favorites like VeganFest and the Taste of Bermuda. The strategic partnership with the Chamber is expected to further elevate the town and support local businesses.
Residents can expect increased activity in areas such as Tiger Bay, Water Street, King’s Square, and Ordnance Island in the days leading up to and on the day of the festival. Complimentary parking will be available at Tiger Bay, ensuring easy access for all attendees.
