A thrilling new creature feature is set to storm theaters, crafted by a director with deep ties to the genre’s rich legacy. STX Entertainment and Citizen Skull Productions are teaming up to bring the legendary Sasquatch to life in the upcoming horror film, Bigfoot.
According to Deadline, John Asher will be at the helm of this terrifying venture, with Jordan Reid providing the screenplay. The narrative centers on a fearsome beast that wreaks havoc on a contemporary housing development nestled in a quaint mountain town. Amidst the chaos, the newly appointed sheriff must fight valiantly to save her daughter’s life. While details about the cast remain under wraps, production is slated to commence this fall.
John Asher, known for his work on films like A Boy Called Po and I Hate Kids, will delve into horror for the first time with Bigfoot. Interestingly, Asher’s foray into this genre isn’t without historical significance. He is the grandson of E.M. Asher, who served as an associate producer on the monumental 1931 horror classics Dracula and Frankenstein. Asher’s lineage suggests that directing monster films is in his blood. Speaking about Bigfoot, Asher remarked, “Since Jaws, moviegoers have feared the water. After they see Bigfoot, they’ll think twice about entering the forest.” Mark Myers of Citizen Skull Productions echoed this sentiment, adding, “The script is incredibly terrifying. It’s sure to keep audiences gripping their seats.”
Meanwhile, classic movie monsters are experiencing a renaissance. Among them is Nosferatu, a highly anticipated film by Robert Eggers set to resurrect cinema’s first vampire. Scheduled for release this Christmas, Nosferatu boasts an impressive cast featuring Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok, Lily-Rose Depp as Ellen Hutter, Nicholas Hoult as Thomas Hutter, Willem Dafoe as Professor Albin Eberhart von Franz, Emma Corrin as Anna Harding, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Friedrich Harding.
For fans who prefer watching from home, Guillermo del Toro is crafting his own rendition of a classic monster for Netflix. His adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is expected to premiere in 2025. This film stars Oscar Isaac as Dr. Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as The Monster, with a supporting cast that includes Christoph Waltz, Mia Goth, Lars Mikkelsen, and David Bradley.
Bigfoot does not yet have an official release date, but anticipation is already building for what promises to be a chilling addition to the horror genre.
