Creativity enthusiasts and industry professionals will gather in a vibrant celebration of the creative economy’s most influential drivers at this year’s event, scheduled from September 1 to 7 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
The event promises an array of film screenings, exhibitions, festivals, and unparalleled networking opportunities. The highlight of this year’s gathering will be the presence of award-winning Hollywood comedian, actor, and entertainment industry veteran Steve Harvey, who is well-acquainted with South African audiences.
Over 200 expert speakers are set to delve into the latest industry trends, offering invaluable insights and critical skills through FAME’s 80 masterclasses and dialogue engagement sessions. These sessions aim to unlock success in various creative domains. Among these experts, Mzukisi Mbane of Imprint ZA and Nollywood costume designer Yolanda Okereke will explore the intricate relationship between fashion and film, providing a comprehensive understanding of their intersection.
The Cape Town International Animation Showcase is poised to be a centerpiece of the event, guiding attendees through the complexities of an industry that has significantly evolved. Once seen as primarily for children, animation now encompasses adult genres, with the anime sector emerging as a formidable force in recent years.
Adding to the excitement, eMedia will host the FAME night party at Cabo Beach Club on September 3. Marlon Davids, Managing Director, emphasizes their partnership with FAME Week as a testament to their dedication to elevating African content creativity and innovation. This collaboration aims to amplify voices and stories that resonate across Africa and beyond.
The event’s organizers have meticulously curated a program that acknowledges the industry’s challenges, including intellectual property theft, artists’ struggles with contracts, and issues of misconduct. To address these concerns, Lawyers for the Arts SA and Irish MacLeod will offer essential free legal counsel during the event.
Additionally, gender activist Zoey Black will host the inaugural Inclusivity Lens Awards, celebrating the diversity of Africa’s creative talent. This initiative underscores the power of storytelling in breaking barriers and promoting diversity, highlighting the creative industry’s role in addressing societal issues and giving voice to previously taboo topics.
JP Smith, Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, states: “As a sector employing thousands of our residents, it is crucial to provide a platform for local creatives and filmmakers to showcase their talent internationally while learning from industry experts.”
Tickets for various events are already available at different price points on the FAME Week Africa website.
