An alarming incident has surfaced in the densely populated area of Dharavi. A 59-year-old man, identified as Mohammed Jafar Mohammed Hanif Khan, has been accused of a heinous crime. According to the Dharavi Police, Khan entered a young girl’s home when she was alone and proceeded to rape her, threatening her with a knife to ensure her compliance.
On the day of the incident, Khan reportedly wore a mask to conceal his identity. He forced his way into the house and attacked the girl, inflicting a knife wound on her neck. Initially, the girl couldn’t identify her assailant due to the mask. However, during the struggle, the mask fell off, revealing Khan’s face.
In a further act of cruelty, Khan threatened to kill the girl if she screamed for help. Once she recognized him, he escalated his threats, saying he would disfigure her with acid if she disclosed the assault to anyone. Before fleeing, Khan searched the house for valuables, indicating premeditation and an intent to rob.
When the girl’s family returned home, she bravely informed her mother about the traumatic event. The family immediately filed a complaint at Dharavi Police Station. Upon receiving the complaint, police swiftly registered a case against Mohammed Jafar Mohammed Hanif Khan under sections 66(1) and 351(3) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (Indian Penal Code) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Khan was subsequently arrested at his residence.
A medical examination of the victim was conducted at Sion Hospital, where it was confirmed that her physical condition is currently stable. This incident has shaken the local community and underscored the urgent need for enhanced safety measures and awareness programs to protect vulnerable individuals from such horrifying crimes.
The Dharavi Police continue their investigation, urging anyone with additional information to come forward. This case highlights not only the immediate danger posed by individuals like Khan but also the broader societal issues of child safety and the importance of vigilance in our communities.
