Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 19 (ANI): After the conclusion of the first day’s play in the opening Test match against Bangladesh, Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal reflected on their strategy, emphasizing the importance of building partnerships and capitalizing on loose deliveries.
Yashasvi showcased a commendable performance by scoring 56 runs off 118 balls, maintaining a strike rate of 47.46. His innings was studded with nine exquisite boundaries.
In the post-day press conference, Yashasvi acknowledged the need for more practice and highlighted the team’s focus on seizing opportunities from loose balls on the first day. “As batsmen, we sometimes get out to good deliveries. I played my part and didn’t overthink it. Moving forward, I recognize the need for more practice. Our discussion revolved around using our feet effectively, forming crucial partnerships, and maximizing scoring chances from loose deliveries,” he explained.
The Test match saw Bangladesh winning the toss and opting to bowl first in Chennai, the initial encounter of a two-match series against India. India’s top order faced a significant setback, crumbling to 34/3. However, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (56 off 118 balls with nine fours) and Rishabh Pant (39 off 52 balls with six fours) managed to stabilize the innings with a vital 62-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Despite this effort, India found themselves at a precarious 144/6.
The recovery came through an extraordinary unbeaten 195-run partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Ashwin remained not out after scoring a century, while Jadeja contributed a resilient 86* off 117 balls, including ten boundaries and two sixes. By the end of the day, India had reached a total of 339/6.
Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud emerged as the standout bowler, claiming four wickets for 58 runs. His scalps included crucial dismissals of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0), and Virat Kohli (6), which severely dented India’s top order.
