Jamshedpur, Sep 19: Sarah Sharma, a rising badminton star from Jamshedpur, showcased her extraordinary talent at the recently concluded Jharkhand Junior (U-19) Badminton Championship cum Selection Trial. The event, which took place at the Mohan Ahuja Stadium and wrapped up on Thursday, saw Sarah clinching an impressive triple title victory. Sarah, who attends DSM School in Kashidih, emerged as a dominant force by winning the Under-19 singles, doubles, and mixed doubles categories.
In the Under-19 singles final, Sarah faced off against Ananya Singh from Ranchi. Demonstrating her exceptional skills and strategic gameplay, Sarah secured the championship title with a decisive win. Moving on to the doubles category, she teamed up with her singles rival, Ananya Singh, to take on Debadrita Bagchi and Vaibhaviman from Dhanbad. The dynamic duo displayed impeccable coordination and teamwork, defeating their opponents to claim another title.
Sarah’s prowess was further highlighted in the mixed doubles final. Partnering with Niraj Keshri, Sarah once again exhibited her versatility and competitive edge. The pair went up against Yuvraj Kumar and Yogita Bora in a thrilling match that ended with Sarah and Niraj emerging victorious, thus securing Sarah’s third title of the tournament.
The boys’ singles final also featured remarkable performances. Suraj Pratap Singh from East Singhbhum triumphed over Ranchi’s Niraj Keshri, showcasing his resilience and skill to become the boys’ singles champion. The Under-19 boys’ doubles final saw Niraj Keshri teaming up with Sachine Gope to face Amaan Rahman and Ayaan Rehman. Niraj and Sachine’s synergy and strategic play led them to victory, adding another feather to their cap.
These stellar performances during the championship are crucial as they will play a significant role in selecting the Jharkhand team for the Under-19 National Championship. This prestigious event is scheduled to be held in Bhubaneswar in November, where the selected players will represent their state on a national platform.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by several prominent dignitaries. Chief Sports of Tata Steel, Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, JBA Secretary K. Prabhakar Rao, Head Sports (Training Centres and Events) Tata Steel Vibhuti D Adesara, and coach Vivek Kumar were among those who attended.
