Jorhat (Assam) [India], September 20 (ANI): In a dazzling display of football prowess, the Sub-Junior Boys’ National Football Championship Tier 2 final saw hosts Assam thrash Haryana 11-0, claiming the championship title in Jorhat on Friday, September 20, 2024.
Assam’s dominance was evident from the outset, as they surged to a 7-0 lead by halftime. Central to this commanding performance was Tanmoy Boruah, who achieved a remarkable double hat-trick, netting six goals split evenly across both halves. Supporting this onslaught were Tamash Daimary and Arup Karmakar, each scoring twice, while Nivir Protim Borgohain added his name to the list of goal scorers, making it a comprehensive victory for Assam. Right from kickoff, Assam demonstrated their offensive might. Tamash Daimary opened the scoring in just the 6th minute, setting the tone for what was to come. Skipper Tanmoy Boruah followed suit with a goal in the 12th minute, and Arup Karmakar added another just four minutes later. Tamash struck again in the 19th minute and converted a penalty in the 21st minute. Tanmoy continued his scoring spree with another goal in the 25th minute, and Arup closed out the first half scoring in the 31st minute, leaving Assam in a commanding position.
The second half saw Assam continue their relentless attack. Tanmoy Boruah added three more goals to his tally in the 54th, 59th, and 78th minutes, while substitute Nivir Protim Borgohain scored in the 62nd minute, completing the rout.
In another match from the same day, Manipur secured their spot in the final of the Sub-Junior Boys’ National Football Championship Tier 1 with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Goa. They will face Karnataka in the final on Sunday.
Manipur showcased their attacking prowess from the start, taking a decisive 3-0 lead by the 22nd minute. The first goal came early in the fifth minute when Makakmayum Araf’s long pass found Keisham Bikash Singh on the right wing. Bikash darted into the box and unleashed a powerful right-footed shot that found the net’s corner. Manipur doubled their lead in the 12th minute with Araf himself attempting a long-range shot from around 35 yards that dipped perfectly into Goa’s goal.
Goa’s goalkeeper Kaustubh Dattaraj Tari struggled with long-range shots, conceding another similar goal in the 22nd minute when Bikash Singh’s looping shot dropped just in front of him before crossing the goal line through his hands. Bikash completed his hat-trick in stoppage time (90+4th minute) after receiving a pass from Syed Adil to Salman on the left corner of the box. Bikash then skillfully dribbled past two defenders before slotting it into the net.
This weekend promises an exciting climax to the tournament with both Assam and Manipur showcasing extraordinary talent and determination in their respective tiers.
