Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 19 (ANI): In a scintillating display of talent, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal extended his impressive run in Test cricket by securing his eighth fifty-plus score. This notable achievement places him in the esteemed company of cricketing legends like Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli.

During the first Test against Bangladesh held in Chennai, Jaiswal delivered a commendable performance, scoring 56 runs off 118 balls, embellished with nine boundaries. Despite the fall of wickets around him, he managed to stabilize the innings, forming a crucial 62-run partnership with wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant.

In his nascent Test career spanning ten matches, Jaiswal has amassed eight fifty-plus scores, trailing just behind the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, who recorded nine such scores in his first ten Tests. Other notable cricketers who have achieved similar feats include Sadagoppan Ramesh, Virat Kohli, Vinod Kambli, Mayank Agarwal, and Ajit Wadekar.

Remarkably, Jaiswal has maintained a consistent performance on home soil, scoring fifty-plus runs in all six Tests played in India so far.

In these ten Test matches, Jaiswal has accumulated a total of 1,084 runs at an impressive average of 67.75. His record includes three centuries and five half-centuries across 17 innings, with his highest score being an unbeaten 214.

Focusing on his home ground performance, Jaiswal has scored 768 runs in ten innings at an exceptional average of 85.33. This includes two centuries and four half-centuries, with his best score remaining 214*.

In the match against Bangladesh, after winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Bangladesh’s bowlers initially dominated, reducing India to a precarious 34/3. Jaiswal’s resilient innings of 56, along with Rishabh Pant’s quickfire 39 off 52 balls, helped India recover by adding 62 runs for the fourth wicket. The team faced another setback at 144/6 but was revived by a formidable partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 86 off 117 balls, featuring ten fours and two sixes, while Ashwin supported him to take the score to a strong 339/6 at the end of the day’s play.

Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud emerged as the standout bowler, taking four crucial wickets for 58 runs and dismantling the Indian top order by dismissing key players such as Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0), and Virat Kohli (6).

The playing XI for Bangladesh included Shadman Islam, Zakir Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das (w), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, and Nahid Rana.

India’s lineup featured Rohit Sharma (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant (w), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, and Mohammed Siraj.
