Maligaon, September 20 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway is taking significant strides to ensure the safety and comfort of its passengers by undertaking extensive modernization and upgrades of its infrastructure to align with the highest standards of safety and convenience.
As a crucial part of this comprehensive modernization initiative led by Indian Railways, the NF Railway has embarked on the transformation of its traditional ICF (Integral Coach Factory) coaches into state-of-the-art Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches across its network. This transition is aimed at enhancing both safety and passenger experience.
The new LHB coaches come equipped with cutting-edge technology systems designed to significantly improve safety measures. These include Fire and Smoke Detection Systems (FSDS), Fire Detection and Suppression Systems (FDSS), and an innovative aerosol-based fire detection system. Presently, 62 pairs of trains operated by NF Railway are outfitted with these LHB coaches, known for their robust anti-collision technology, which plays a pivotal role in minimizing fatalities during accidents. Each coach is also integrated with an “Advanced Pneumatic Disc Brake System,” ensuring highly effective braking capabilities even at elevated speeds.
In terms of specifics, a total of 1,060 LHB air-conditioned (AC) coaches have been installed with FSDS. Furthermore, 153 power cars and 68 pantry cars are equipped with FDSS, enhancing overall train safety. Additionally, 267 AC coaches are being upgraded with the aerosol-based fire detection system. These sophisticated fire detection mechanisms are meticulously designed to monitor precise locations within train coaches, allowing for the swift identification and management of any fire incidents. This proactive approach enables early alarms that are crucial in preventing panic, reducing injuries, and safeguarding lives and property.
To augment fire safety further, a systematic phase-wise approach is being adopted to equip all power cars, pantry cars, and AC coaches with the necessary fire safety measures. This continuous process of improving rail safety includes regular safety drives, comprehensive audits, and rigorous inspections aimed at identifying and rectifying any deficiencies in asset maintenance and safety protocols.
By prioritizing these advanced safety measures, NF Railway is setting a new benchmark in passenger safety and convenience, ensuring that every journey is not only comfortable but also secure.
