NFR Modernizes Coaches with Advanced Safety Systems for Passenger Security

Guwahati: Ensuring the utmost safety and comfort for passengers during their travels, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has undertaken significant modernization efforts to elevate its infrastructure to meet top-tier standards of safety and convenience.

One notable initiative involves the transition from conventional Integral Coach Factory (ICF) coaches to state-of-the-art Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches on trains traversing NFR routes. These modern LHB coaches incorporate cutting-edge technological systems designed to enhance passenger safety. Among these systems are advanced fire and smoke detection mechanisms, fire suppression systems, and aerosol-based fire detection technology.

Currently, 62 pairs of trains under NFR’s jurisdiction are equipped with these LHB coaches, including newly introduced services. These coaches boast anti-collision technology, significantly reducing fatalities in the event of train accidents. Moreover, each LHB coach features an advanced pneumatic disc brake system, ensuring efficient braking even at higher speeds.

For example, 1,060 LHB air-conditioned coaches have been outfitted with sophisticated fire and smoke detection systems. Additionally, 153 power cars and 68 pantry cars have been installed with fire detection and suppression systems. Furthermore, 267 air-conditioned coaches are equipped with aerosol-based fire detection systems, enhancing overall safety.

These fire detection systems are crucial as they pinpoint the exact location of a fire within the train coaches, raising alarms to prevent the spread of fire. This early and reliable detection helps avert panic and injuries, thereby minimizing potential loss of lives and property.

To bolster fire safety measures, NFR is systematically equipping all power cars, pantry cars, and air-conditioned coaches with appropriate fire safety devices in a phased manner. This proactive approach is complemented by regular safety drives, audits, and inspections of railway infrastructure. These efforts aim to identify weak points in asset maintenance, safety protocols, and systemic issues, providing solutions to preempt any untoward incidents.

This comprehensive strategy underscores NFR’s commitment to passenger safety and well-being, ensuring a safer and more comfortable journey for all.
