Washington [US], September 2 (ANI): The Oscar-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden has officially joined the cast of the upcoming sci-fi thriller ‘Renner’. This highly-anticipated film is the brainchild of Robert Rippberger, who is not only writing and directing but also producing it.
Marcia Gay Harden, celebrated for her stellar performances in films such as Pollock and Mystic River, will lend her voice to the character Salenus, an artificially intelligent companion. Salenus is a creation of the film’s protagonist, Renner, portrayed by Frankie Muniz. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this AI character plays a pivotal role in the narrative.
The story of ‘Renner’ centers on a brilliant computer genius named Renner, who endeavors to impress his new neighbor, Jamie, played by Violett Beane. With the assistance of Salenus, Renner initially believes he has found the perfect tool to gain Jamie’s admiration. However, he soon discovers that he has inadvertently embedded traits of his manipulative mother into the AI, leading to unforeseen complications.
The screenplay for ‘Renner’ is a collaborative effort among Robert Rippberger, Martin Medina, and Luke Medina. Rippberger also shares production responsibilities with Medina, KT Kent, Devin Keaton, and Jay Burnley.
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Rippberger expressed his elation about Harden’s involvement in the project. He remarked, “I am incredibly honored to have an acclaimed performer like Marcia voice the very piece of technology that is reshaping Hollywood. Throughout history, we have always had oracles guiding society. AI represents yet another distraction from independent thought and preserving the human element that makes art unique and unforgettable. Marcia is a true artist who has infused tremendous depth into the themes of this film.”
Marcia Gay Harden’s illustrious career includes another Academy Award nomination for her role in Apple TV+’s The Morning Show. Additionally, she has starred in the CBS dramedy So Help Me Todd and the Michael Keaton-directed thriller Knox Goes Away. Her remarkable talent was acknowledged in 2001 when she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Lee Krasner in Pollock.
Marcia Gay Harden is represented by CAA, Framework Entertainment, Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham, and The Initiative Group.
