“Coraline” Re-Release Passes Significant Domestic Box Office Milestone, Surpassing Major 2024 Films

The re-release of “Coraline” has achieved a remarkable domestic box office milestone, outperforming several major movies slated for 2024. This resurgence showcases the enduring appeal of the animated classic.

Meanwhile, “Wolfs” has garnered the highest Rotten Tomatoes score for George Clooney in eight years. This film, featuring Brad Pitt and Clooney as “lone wolf” fixers entangled in a complex job, was penned and directed by Jon Watts, known for his work on “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Alongside the leading duo, the cast includes Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, Poorna Jagannathan, Richard Kind, and the voice of Frances McDormand.

Following its premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, Rotten Tomatoes has collated initial reviews for “Wolfs.” Out of 11 critics’ evaluations, the film has secured a Fresh score of 71%. Although this rating may fluctuate with additional reviews before its official release, it currently stands as Clooney’s best-rated film since the Coen Brothers’ “Hail, Caesar!” in 2016, which earned a Certified Fresh score of 86%.

Examining Clooney’s recent track record on Rotten Tomatoes reveals a challenging period. Over the past eight years, his films have not resonated well with critics. Out of 34 films listed on Rotten Tomatoes since 1988 where Clooney served as an actor or director, 21 have been rated Fresh while 13 have been deemed Rotten. Below is a detailed breakdown of his film scores since “Hail, Caesar!”:

Title | Role | RT Score
— | — | —
“Hail, Caesar!” (2016) | Actor – Baird Whitlock | 86%
“Money Monster” (2016) | Actor – Lee Gates | 59%
“Suburbicon” (2017) | Director | 27%
“The Midnight Sky” (2020) | Director/Actor – Augustine | 49%
“The Tender Bar” (2021) | Director | 51%
“Ticket to Paradise” (2022) | Actor – David | 56%
“The Boys in the Boat” (2023) | Director | 57%
“Wolfs” (2024) | Actor – Jack | 73%

Despite the critical reception, audiences have shown a different reaction to Clooney’s recent work. For instance, although “Hail, Caesar!” has a low audience score of 44% on the Popcornmeter, three other films from 2016 onwards have been well-received by viewers. These include “The Tender Bar” with a 70% audience score, “Ticket to Paradise” at 87%, and “The Boys in the Boat” with an impressive 97%, earning it the “Verified Hot” status.

The early reviews for “Wolfs” might signal the end of Clooney’s nearly decade-long slump. This film could mark the beginning of a new era of critically acclaimed projects for the star. Looking ahead, Clooney is set to work on an untitled movie directed by Noah Baumbach. Given Baumbach’s streak of Fresh ratings on Rotten Tomatoes since 2014, this collaboration could significantly enhance Clooney’s chances of securing another favorable review.

“Wolfs” is an action-thriller film crafted by Jon Watts and features the dynamic on-screen reunion of Brad Pitt and George Clooney after nearly fifteen years. The story revolves around two fixers brought together for the same job, leading to unexpected complications.

Directed by Jon Watts and set for release on September 20, 2024, “Wolfs” is produced by Apple Studios, Plan B Entertainment, and Smokehouse Pictures and will be distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing and Apple TV+. The film boasts a runtime of 108 minutes and falls under the crime genre.

The cast includes George Clooney as Jack, Brad Pitt, Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, Poorna Jagannathan, and features an impressive ensemble that promises to deliver a gripping narrative.
