Kyle Singler, a former NBA player, has recently raised concerns among fans and others in the basketball community due to troubling videos he posted online.
The Medford Police Department in Oregon has confirmed that they are aware of the videos Singler shared, which have worried many. In these clips, Singler, who is now 36 and last played in the NBA in 2018 with the Oklahoma City Thunder, made several disturbing claims. He stated that he fears for his life on a daily basis, saying he’s been “mistreated,” “abused,” and even “held hostage.” Despite the police knowing about these posts, they have chosen not to make any public comments related to mental health matters.
Over the course of six videos, Singler has continued to share concerning messages. In one video, he spoke about being involved in a “religious war,” while in another, he appeared to be meditating. His first video showed him shirtless in an empty room, where he expressed feelings of being silenced and mistreated by his community. He spoke emotionally about fearing for his life and feeling misunderstood.
The NBA Players Association has reached out to Singler’s family, offering support during this challenging time. A spokesperson for the players’ union mentioned that they provide help to all their members, both current and former, during moments of success as well as difficulty.
Several of Singler’s former teammates and fellow players have publicly expressed their concern. Kevin Love, who also grew up in Oregon and played against Singler in high school, shared supportive messages on social media. He encouraged people who know Singler to offer him love and support. Other NBA players like Andre Drummond and Isaiah Thomas have also shown their support, letting Singler know that he’s not alone during this tough period.
Throughout his career, Singler played 356 NBA games, averaging 6.5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. After leaving the NBA, he continued his career in Spain but eventually stepped away from basketball for personal reasons in 2019.
The situation has left many hoping that Singler gets the help and support he needs.
