Grand Theft Auto 6 is easily one of the most awaited games in recent memory. With a potential release date for Fall 2025 on consoles, gamers everywhere are counting the days. However, there’s still no official word on when or if the game will come to PC, and recent news might be disappointing for PC players.
Former Rockstar developer and technical director for GTA 4, Obbe Vermeij, recently hinted on X (formerly Twitter) that the PC version of GTA 6 might not arrive until 2027. He also suggested that GTA 6 could be a game that sells for over 10 years, with little to no competition. According to him, Rockstar won’t release the game until they are “100% happy” with it, regardless of what any trailer says.
This means that while the console version might shoot for a 2025 release, delays are still possible. Rockstar has a history of pushing back dates, so gamers shouldn’t be surprised if this happens again. As for the PC version, based on past releases like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, it’s likely it will come out much later than the console versions.
It’s important to note that Vermeij made it clear he doesn’t have insider information about the release dates. His comments were more of a personal guess than confirmed details.
On the positive side, Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick did drop some hints about the PC version, saying Rockstar will make more announcements in due time. This confirms that a PC version is on the way, but nobody knows exactly when.
Vermeij also talked about how Rockstar tends to take its time with their games. He recalled how GTA 4’s release date got delayed just four months before launch because the PlayStation 3 version and some missions needed more work.
Rockstar’s strategy makes sense given the massive success of GTA 5. Since its launch, GTA 5 has earned over $8.6 billion in revenue and continues to sell millions of copies even today. With over 200 million units sold, it’s the second best-selling game of all time, right behind Minecraft.
In the end, Rockstar’s focus is on making sure everything is perfect, and with little competition in sight, they’re in no rush. Even Take-Two’s CEO has said that fans expect nothing but the best from GTA 6, so they won’t be cutting any corners.
