Pakistan Prepares for Must-Win 2nd ODI vs Australia in Adelaide

The Pakistan cricket team has arrived in Adelaide after traveling from Melbourne for their second One Day International (ODI) against Australia. This match follows their close loss in the first ODI, where Australia won by two wickets.

After a long journey, the Pakistan players landed in Adelaide on Tuesday afternoon. They took some time to rest and recover before their big match. Pakistan is aiming to bounce back and level the series, which currently stands at 1-0 in favor of Australia.

Pakistan is planning to hold a practice session tomorrow to prepare for the game. There’s talk of potential changes to the lineup after their defeat in Melbourne. Some inside sources suggest that Pakistan might bring in a regular spinner for this match. The squad includes spinners like Faisal Akram and Arafat Minhas, who could make an appearance. If a spinner is added, fast bowlers Naseem Shah or Mohammad Hasnain might sit out to allow for this change in strategy.

Naseem Shah, who struggled with cramps during the first ODI, is reportedly feeling better but might still be rested to give Pakistan’s bowling attack a new approach. Adding spin to the lineup could give Pakistan more variety as they try to turn things around and even the series.

In the first ODI, Pakistan managed to score 203 runs in 46.4 overs, which wasn’t enough as Australia chased down the target, scoring 204/8 in 33.3 overs. Pakistan struggled with their all-pace attack, and some of their bowlers gave away too many extras, which proved costly in the low-scoring match.

Australia now leads the three-match series 1-0, and Pakistan is determined to avoid falling further behind. The second ODI will take place in Adelaide on November 8.

Pakistan’s current squad for the Australia tour includes: Aamir Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Arafat Minhas, Babar Azam, Faisal Akram, Haris Rauf, Haseebullah (WK), Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Muhammad Irfan Khan, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Shaheen Shah Afridi.

There’s good news ahead of the second ODI as fast bowler Naseem Shah has fully recovered from his cramps. He was able to join the team for practice today and is expected to be available for selection in the upcoming game. Though he’s fit again, it remains uncertain if Pakistan will stick with the same XI or introduce new players for the second match. The final lineup will be confirmed after tomorrow’s practice session.

Pakistan’s selectors, led by Asad Shafiq, will be consulting with the captain and coaching staff before making any decisions on changes. They’ll also consider Adelaide’s pitch conditions before finalizing the team.

Since arriving in Adelaide, the team has taken a much-needed rest day followed by a focused practice session today. They’ve been working on improving their batting, bowling, and fielding after reviewing their mistakes from the first match.

Adelaide hasn’t been a favorable venue for Pakistan in the past. Out of eight matches played there, they’ve only won once — a victory that came back in 1996 under Wasim Akram’s captaincy. In that game, Saqlain Mushtaq was the star with a brilliant five-wicket performance. Pakistan will be hoping to rewrite history with another win this time around.
