Prolific Prep of Napa Christian’s basketball team is getting ready for one of their biggest games of the season. With a perfect 6-0 record so far, they will face off against the No. 1 high school team in the country, Columbus High School from Miami, Florida. The game will take place on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. PST at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.
This matchup is highly anticipated because it’s a rematch of last year’s thrilling game, where Columbus came from behind to beat Prolific Prep 81-78 in overtime. In that game, Columbus erased a nine-point deficit in the last minute and a half to tie it up and send it to overtime.
Columbus High features some of the top talent in the nation, including five-star senior twins Cayden and Cameron Boozer. Cayden is a 6-foot-5 point guard, and Cameron is a 6-foot-9 power forward. Both have committed to play for Duke University, following in the footsteps of their father, Carlos Boozer, who played in the NBA for 13 years with teams like the Cavaliers, Jazz, Bulls, and Lakers. Columbus also has another star player, Caleb Gaskins, a 6-foot-8 junior power forward who recently transferred from Montverde Academy.
The game will also feature two of the top high school coaches in the country: Ryan Bernardi for Prolific Prep and Andrew Moran for Columbus. Columbus is hoping to start their season strong as they aim for a fourth consecutive Florida 7A state championship and a second straight trip to the Chipotle Nationals.
Tickets for the game range from $20 for general admission to $100 for courtside seats and can be purchased online through the Florida Atlantic University ticket office.
Prolific Prep has been on fire recently, winning both their games at the Grind Session Miami tournament. They beat Balboa City (Escondido, Calif.) 85-73 on Friday and West Oaks (Orlando) 81-71 on Saturday.
In their game against Balboa City, Prolific Prep’s Niko Bundalo, a 6-foot-10 senior, led the way with 30 points and 9 rebounds. Darryn Peterson, a 6-foot-5 Kansas commit, added 24 points, while Winters Grady, a 6-foot-7 Michigan commit, contributed 15 points before getting injured. Other key players included juniors Seven Spurlock and Rajon Roberts, and sophomores Gabe Nesmith and Obinna Ekezie.
Despite Grady’s injury keeping him out of the next game against West Oaks, Prolific Prep didn’t miss a beat. Nesmith stepped up with 12 points and 5 rebounds to help Bundalo (25 points) and Peterson (25 points) secure another win. Other players who contributed included Roberts with 7 points and Spurlock with 6 points.
The game against Columbus is set to be an exciting showdown between two powerhouse teams loaded with talent. Fans won’t want to miss it!
