Faisalabad claimed a dominant victory over Hyderabad by an innings and 8 runs on the second day of the third round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy cricket tournament. The match was held on Friday, and Faisalabad’s bowlers played a key role in their win.
In another match, young Sialkot batsman Azan Owais made a name for himself by scoring his first-ever first-class century. He and Asher Mehmood built a powerful partnership, adding 312 runs for the first wicket against Dera Murad Jamali. Azan scored 130 runs in his third first-class match, following up from his earlier scores of 51 and 78 in previous games. His partner, Asher Mehmood, was even more impressive, scoring 172 runs.
At the Diamond Cricket Ground in Islamabad, Faisalabad put up 230 runs in response to Hyderabad’s first-innings score of just 96. Bilawal Bhatti was on fire with the ball, taking 5 wickets for 55 runs. Hyderabad could only manage 126 in their second innings, as Faisalabad’s bowlers Shahid Ali and Asad Raza took 4 wickets each to seal the win.
Meanwhile, at Sheikhupura’s Rana Naveed Academy, Sialkot ended the day at 370/5 thanks to Azan and Asher’s incredible opening stand. Their partnership set the foundation for a strong total against Dera Murad Jamali.
Other matches saw Karachi Whites struggle against Rawalpindi at Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium. Karachi was bowled out for 145 in their first innings, with Ramiz Aziz top-scoring with 59 runs. Rawalpindi responded with 169/9 by the end of play. Shadab Khan contributed with 46 runs, while Saqib Khan took four wickets.
At the National Ground in Islamabad, Abbottabad bowled out Larkana for just 63 runs but couldn’t dominate completely. Abbottabad put up 231 in their first innings, with Khayyam Khan scoring 46. Mushtaq Kalhoro was the star bowler for Larkana, taking 5 wickets for 70 runs. In their second innings, Larkana improved slightly to reach 130/5.
Over at Ashfaq Ground in Charsadda, Peshawar posted 213 in response to Azad Jammu Kashmir’s first-innings score of 171. Israrullah contributed 62 runs for Peshawar while Faizan Saleem took five wickets for AJK. In their second innings, AJK were better placed at 100/1, with Hasan Raza unbeaten on 62.
At Saeed Sports City in Lahore, Lahore Blues were bowled out for 150 against Quetta’s first-innings total of just 101. Gohar Faiz took 4 wickets for Quetta, restricting Lahore to a modest score.
In another match at Murghazar Cricket Ground Islamabad, Lahore Whites were bowled out for 214 against Islamabad’s first-innings score of 167. Obaid Shahid top-scored with 43 for Lahore. Kaleem Dil was Islamabad’s best bowler with figures of 5/60. By the end of the day, Islamabad were struggling at 129/8 in their second innings, with Ahmed Daniyal taking four wickets.
At Multan Cricket Stadium, bad light interrupted play between Karachi Blues and FATA on the second day. On the first day, Karachi Blues had scored 221/5 with Abdullah Fazal nearing his century on 96 not out.
In Abbottabad, Bahawalpur were bowled out for 297 in their first innings against Multan. Wasim Akram claimed four wickets for Multan. In response, Multan struggled and were bowled out for just 147 runs. Shoaib Manzoor and Mehran Sanul shared the spoils, taking four wickets each for Bahawalpur. Bahawalpur ended the day at 0 without any loss in their second innings.
