Oklahoma City – The City Council has agreed to accept a donation of 9 acres of land from Echo, located near Shields Boulevard and SE 3rd Street. This spot will be the future home of the MAPS 4 multipurpose stadium.
David Todd, the MAPS Program Manager, shared that the design of the stadium is already in progress. The new stadium will have a regulation-size field, making it suitable for high school, college, and professional soccer games. It will also be used for football games, concerts, festivals, and other events.
Todd explained that while funds from MAPS 4 and economic development will cover construction costs, Echo had the responsibility to find a good location. The chosen site is centrally located and offers plenty of opportunities for nearby development. It’s expected to become a key attraction for a future entertainment district in the city.
In July, Echo, through its affiliate Echo Soccer, bought some undeveloped land near the Oklahoma City Convention Center and south of Bricktown. This purchase was made in collaboration with Robinson Park and is part of their plan to develop a sports-focused entertainment district in the area.
Christian Kanady, CEO of Echo, said that this stadium will be much more than just a place for soccer. He believes it will become a central hub for sports, music, and other entertainment activities in Oklahoma City. Kanady added that this world-class venue will bring new energy to downtown and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
The City Council has put $71 million toward this project, with $41 million coming from the MAPS 4 program.
