Big news for Spider-Man fans: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is finally coming to PC/Steam in January! This is exciting because the game has been exclusive to PlayStation for a while, and many people without the console have been waiting for their chance to play.
In a recent PlayStation Blog post, some interesting details about the game were revealed. One key moment from the game’s opening has caught a lot of attention—Peter Parker and Miles Morales team up to take on Sandman. Many fans have called this one of the best parts of the entire game.
Bryan Intihar, Senior Creative Director, shared some insights about how the team approached this epic opening. From the start, they knew they were developing the game for the PS5, which gave them room to think big.
“Sandman was one of the first things we decided on, really early,” Intihar said. He explained how they wanted to use the PS5’s power and tech to its fullest and create something special. With two Spider-Men in the game, they wanted a big opening that matched the scale of their ambitions. Sandman was their answer.
However, pulling off this massive fight scene was no easy task. The team spent a long time working on it, making sure everything looked and felt right. Not only is Sandman a large character, but his powers also make him tricky to animate. He constantly changes shape and moves through buildings while Peter and Miles switch between each other seamlessly in the action. Getting all the technology and art right to bring Sandman to life was a huge challenge.
Since Sandman’s body is made of sand, every grain had to be accounted for in the animation. This made it technically complex, but also a perfect way to show how Peter and Miles work together as heroes.
Interestingly, while everyone talks about the amazing Sandman fight, there’s less chatter about Venom, which is surprising since Venom was heavily promoted when the game was first teased in 2021. Adding to that, there won’t be any DLC (downloadable content) for this sequel, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens next in future games or updates.
Fans are eagerly awaiting this release on PC/Steam in January—finally getting a chance to experience all this action!
