Sydney, Jan 5: Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar voiced his disappointment after being left out of the trophy presentation ceremony for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, named after him and Allan Border. This came after Australia defeated India in the five-match Test series to reclaim the trophy after a decade.
Australia secured the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a six-wicket win in the fifth and final Test match. Allan Border was present to hand over the trophy to the Australian team, but Gavaskar, who was also at the venue, was notably not included in the ceremony.
Sharing his thoughts, Gavaskar said, “I would have loved to be part of the presentation. The trophy represents cricketing ties between India and Australia, and it’s named after both Allan Border and me.” He emphasized that it shouldn’t matter which team won when it comes to the presentation. “Australia played better cricket, and they deserved to win. That’s perfectly fine,” he added.
Gavaskar expressed that he would have been happy to join his good friend Allan Border in presenting the trophy, regardless of the outcome. His absence from this special moment left many fans wondering why he wasn’t included, especially given his presence at the stadium during such an important event.
