India Falls Short in Final Test, Misses WTC Final Spot

India faced a tough loss in the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as Australia secured a solid six-wicket win at the Sydney Cricket Ground. This defeat officially knocked India out of contention for a spot in the World Test Championship final.

Throughout most of the match, Jasprit Bumrah and the team struggled to gain control. With Australia needing just 162 runs to chase and Bumrah unable to bowl due to injury, it was an uphill battle for India despite a brief moment when they managed to take a few wickets.

Here’s a closer look at how India’s players performed in the final Test:

**Shubman Gill**
Returning to the playing XI, Gill couldn’t make a significant impact. He got out playing poor shots in both innings and seemed unable to find the right mix of aggression and caution, especially given his crucial role at the top of the order.

**Yashasvi Jaiswal**
Jaiswal fell to two excellent deliveries from Scott Boland. While his batting approach looked solid, there wasn’t much he could do against those deliveries. On the bright side, his catching in the field was commendable.

**KL Rahul**
Rahul had a forgettable game, managing just 17 runs across both innings. While Boland bowled an exceptional delivery to dismiss him in the second innings, his first-innings dismissal was a letdown. Rahul continues to struggle with consistency.

**Virat Kohli**
Kohli’s struggles continued as he got caught behind twice in similar fashion. His dismissals left India’s middle order vulnerable, further adding to the team’s woes.

**Rishabh Pant**
Pant finally showed some fight in this game. In challenging conditions, he worked hard in the first innings before falling to a short ball. In the second innings, he played aggressively, smashing a crucial half-century that gave India a slim lead.

**Washington Sundar**
Sundar didn’t contribute much with the ball and had a quiet game overall. His batting was underwhelming too, though he was somewhat unlucky with an umpiring decision in the first innings.

**Nitish Rana**
Rana picked up a couple of important wickets that helped India take a small first-innings lead. However, his batting was below par, raising questions about whether India should’ve played an extra specialist fast bowler instead.

**Ravindra Jadeja**
Jadeja had a disappointing match with both bat and ball. He got out cheaply in both innings and didn’t have much of a role with the ball. While batting conditions were tough, he played too cautiously and didn’t take enough risks.

**Prasidh Krishna**
Prasidh showed glimpses of potential with some dangerous deliveries across both innings but lacked consistency. His efforts ensured India wasn’t completely overrun by Australia.

**Jasprit Bumrah**
Bumrah bowled just 10 overs before being sidelined by a back injury, but even in that short spell, he looked threatening. Despite missing most of this match, Bumrah’s excellent performances throughout the series earned him the Player of the Series award.

**Mohammed Siraj**
Siraj bowled tirelessly in both innings and gave it his all. He looked menacing in the first innings but couldn’t get the breakthroughs India needed. His hard work went largely unrewarded.

India’s campaign ended on a disappointing note as key players failed to deliver consistently when it mattered most. With this loss, their hopes of making it to the World Test Championship final were dashed.
