Yashasvi Jaiswal Highlights Importance of Partnerships in Test Match Against Bangladesh

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 19 (ANI): Following the conclusion of the first day in the initial Test match against Bangladesh, Indian batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal reflected on their approach, emphasizing the importance of building partnerships and capitalizing on loose deliveries.

Yashasvi showcased a resilient performance, scoring 56 runs off 118 balls at a strike rate of 47.46, peppering his innings with nine boundaries. During the post-day press conference, he acknowledged the need for further practice to refine his skills. He pointed out that the team’s strategy on the first day was to seize scoring opportunities from loose balls.

“Batsmen will inevitably face dismissals with certain deliveries. I simply played my game; there’s not much time to overthink. I believe more practice is crucial for improvement. Our discussions revolved around using our feet effectively and making the most of loose balls to form partnerships and extend our innings,” Yashasvi elaborated.

In a strategic move, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl first in the Chennai Test, marking the commencement of the two-match series against India. The Indian top order crumbled early, reeling at 34/3. However, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (56 off 118 balls, nine fours) and Rishabh Pant (39 off 52 balls, six fours) crafted a vital 62-run stand for the fourth wicket, stabilizing India’s innings.

Despite this recovery, India found themselves in a precarious position at 144/6. The innings took a significant turn when Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja (86* off 117 balls, ten fours, and two sixes) forged an unbroken 195-run partnership, propelling India to a solid 339/6 by the end of the day. Ashwin remained unbeaten after notching up a century.

Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud emerged as the standout bowler, wreaking havoc on India’s top order by claiming four wickets for 58 runs. His key scalps included Indian skipper Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0), and Virat Kohli (6).

Bangladesh’s Playing XI featured: Shadman Islam, Zakir Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto (C), Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das (Wk), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana.

India’s Playing XI consisted of: Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant (Wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj. (ANI)
