Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ Release Delayed Due to CBFC Certification Issues

Kangana Ranaut’s highly anticipated directorial debut, the political drama “Emergency,” is not hitting theatres this Friday as originally planned. This unexpected delay has left many fans and followers curious about the reasons behind the postponement.

Kangana Ranaut has been tirelessly promoting “Emergency,” which she describes as one of her most ambitious projects to date. The film promises to offer a gripping portrayal of a crucial chapter in Indian history, focusing on the turbulent period known as the Emergency. Ranaut takes on the challenging role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, capturing the essence of this controversial era marked by contentious decisions that continue to spark debates and scrutiny. The buzz around “Emergency” has been immense, with audiences eagerly awaiting its release.

Initially set for a theatrical release on September 6, 2024, the film has encountered an unexpected roadblock. As we near the original release date, new developments have come to light. Contrary to the previously announced schedule, “Emergency” will not be hitting theatres this Friday.

According to reports from the Indian Express, the film has not yet secured certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Kangana Ranaut herself took to her social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to share this critical update. Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Satyapal Jain informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that the CBFC is prioritizing the sentiments of all communities, particularly the Sikh community. This consideration has added complexity to the certification process.

The CBFC has stated that due to the sensitive nature of the film’s subject matter, granting certification will require additional time. This has led to a delay in obtaining the necessary clearance, thereby postponing the release of “Emergency” from its original September 6 date. The delay is also tied to objections from several Sikh communities who have expressed concerns over their portrayal in the film.

Earlier on social media, Kangana Ranaut shared a poignant message: “There are rumours doing the rounds that our film, Emergency, has been granted a Censor certificate. This is not true. In fact, our film had been cleared but certification has been stopped because many threats were coming in. Death threats. The Censor Board members are getting threats. We are under pressure not to show the assassination of Indira Gandhi, not to show Bhindranwale, not to show the Punjab riots. I don’t know what will be left to show then… This is unbelievable for me and I am very sorry for the state of things in this country.”

“Emergecy” marks Kangana Ranaut’s directorial debut and features a stellar cast including Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhry, Shreyas Talpade, and Satish Shah. The film aims to provide an insightful look into a pivotal moment in Indian history while sparking important conversations about the past and its impact on present-day India.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to follow this evolving story and bring you the latest developments regarding the release of “Emergency.”
