Second Edition of Men’s Football District League Kicks Off in Bomdila; Aims to Foster Brotherhood and Counter Drug Addiction

BOMDILA, 16 Sep: The vibrant town of Bomdila witnessed the commencement of the second edition of the Men’s Football District League Tournament at Buddha Stadium, located in the scenic West Kameng district. The tournament, which kicked off on a lively Monday, has attracted the participation of fourteen enthusiastic teams.

In a stirring address to the participating teams, Kalaktang MLA Tseten Chombay emphasized the significance of the event. “The enthusiasm among the players is palpable,” he remarked, “and it’s crucial that we all share a common objective: to promote brotherhood among everyone. Play with a spirit that exemplifies communal harmony.”

Highlighting the broader societal impact of sports, Chombay elaborated on their importance in steering youth away from the perilous path of drug addiction. He stressed the empirical evidence showing how engaging in sports can significantly deter young individuals from falling prey to drugs. In a generous gesture, the MLA donated Rs 1 lakh from his personal funds to support the West Kameng District Football Association (WKDFA).

Dorjee Sakrinsow, president of WKDFA, shed light on the primary goal of organizing the tournament. “Our objective is to foster the love for football and to provide a robust platform for our emerging football talents,” he stated, underscoring the association’s commitment to nurturing budding athletes.

The opening ceremony was graced by several notable figures, including Deputy Commissioner Akriti Sagar and Superintendent of Police Sudhanshu Dhama, who lent their support and presence to the event.

The tournament’s inaugural match set an exhilarating tone, with Phoenex United triumphing over Dirang City with an impressive scoreline of 4-1. This thrilling victory not only ignited excitement among spectators but also showcased the high level of skill and competition anticipated throughout the tournament.

The Men’s Football District League Tournament stands as a beacon of sportsmanship and community spirit, aiming to unite people through the love of football while addressing pressing social issues.
