Chennai, Sep 17 (UNI) Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusinghe expressed on Tuesday that the 2-0 historic series victory against Pakistan on their home turf has significantly boosted the team’s confidence as they prepare for the first Test against India, set to begin on Thursday.
In a press briefing here, Hathurusinghe emphasized the critical role senior batters will play as the team faces a formidable opponent—a full-strength Indian squad participating in the World Test Championship series. He highlighted that both teams are eager to make a strong impression and kick off the series with a victory.
Hathurusinghe specifically mentioned key senior players like the seasoned all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, talented spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and experienced batsman Mushfiqur Rahim. These players are expected to carry a significant portion of the team’s responsibilities, particularly in building on their impressive Test match performances away from home.
“The win against Pakistan certainly gives us a lot of confidence coming into this series,” Hathurusinghe stated. He elaborated on the necessity of adapting to the Indian conditions and effectively handling India’s successful spinners, including off-spinner R Ashwin and left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja.
The coach also pointed out that Bangladesh will heavily rely on their robust spin attack. He noted that their batting lineup, which demonstrated its depth by recovering from 26 for six to clinch a Test victory against Pakistan, will be crucial in this series as well.
