Leanne Campbell Returns in ‘The Salon – The Sequel!’ at St Helens Theatre Royal in 2024

The Salon – The Sequel! is the uproarious continuation of the beloved play, The Salon, which has captivated thousands of theater enthusiasts since its initial performance in 2009. This highly anticipated follow-up will premiere at St Helens Theatre Royal from October 3-13, 2024.

Returning to reprise her iconic role as Carol is stage and radio star Leanne Campbell. Known for her dynamic performances, Campbell will be joined by a stellar cast featuring Hollyoaks’ Darren John Langford, Brookside’s Sarah White, St Helens favorites Katy McKenna and Jenna Sian O’Hara, as well as Liverpool’s own Roy Brandon, the comedic Conor Barrie, and introducing the talented Joe Cowin.

Crafted by the brilliant writer Drew Quayle, produced by Regal Entertainments Limited, and directed by Chantelle Nolan, this new show promises to be a standalone masterpiece. Audiences can dive straight into the hilarity without needing to have seen the original.

The Salon first charmed audiences at St Helens Theatre Royal in 2009, followed by successful returns in 2011 and 2017. It also made a celebrated transfer to Liverpool’s Epstein Theatre in 2018.

In The Salon – The Sequel!, Carol has transitioned from manager to the proud owner of The Salon. Her life seems perfect with beauty therapist Tia promoting their services on a hit podcast and workmate Sheila managing her temper through anger management classes. The salon is booming with popularity.

But what could possibly go wrong? Perhaps an unexpected pregnancy or the unwelcome return of a local gangster? In this sequel, just about everything does.

Leanne Campbell began her acting career at the tender age of 10, with standout roles like Annie at the Liverpool Playhouse and an award-winning portrayal of young Helen in Twopence to Cross the Mersey. Her illustrious career includes leading roles in musicals such as Me and My Girl, Carousel, The Sound of Music, and Scrooge. She also starred as Pam in ITV’s Children’s Ward.

In 2020, Campbell wrote and starred in the successful comedy Pete Price is Dead at Liverpool’s Royal Court. Her recent works include Achy Breaky Bride. She is a familiar face in pantomime, with five years at Liverpool Empire and six consecutive years at the city’s M&S Bank Arena. Currently, she co-hosts the regional Breakfast Show on Hits Radio with Joel Ross.

Campbell has made the role of Carol her own in every iteration of The Salon. She expressed her excitement for the sequel: “I had so much fun performing in the original version of The Salon, and I’m thrilled to return to St Helens for this hilarious new sequel. It’s even funnier than the first. Whether you’re a returning fan or a first-time viewer, come join us for a brilliant night out.”

Director Chantelle Nolan shared her enthusiasm: “Drew Quayle’s comedy The Salon was a massive hit when we first staged it at St Helens 15 years ago. Every subsequent return has been hugely popular. I’m thrilled Drew has revisited Curl Up and Dye’s larger-than-life characters for another series of hair-raising adventures. I’m also delighted to welcome back several cast members from previous productions, including Leanne Campbell as Carol. They will be joined by other Regal Entertainment regulars and newcomers like Darren and Joe. With such a talented group and Drew’s fantastic script, this is sure to be one of the highlights of autumn at St Helens Theatre Royal.”
