Mark Dindal’s THE GARFIELD MOVIE: A Fresh Take on the Iconic Lasagna-Loving Cat Now Available

Arriving just in time for the Labor Day weekend, director Mark Dindal and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment bring you an iconic family favorite with THE GARFIELD MOVIE, now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital formats. This delightful film promises to entertain audiences of all ages with the adventures of the world’s most famous lasagna-loving feline.

The story begins with Garfield (voiced by Chris Pratt) sharing his life journey, from a stray kitten wandering the streets to finding a loving home with Jon (Nicholas Hoult). One of Garfield’s earliest memories includes his first taste of pizza, a moment that would shape his future indulgences. Comfortable in his new home, Garfield enjoys life alongside his loyal canine companion Odie (Harvey Guillen). However, their peaceful existence takes a turn when they are kidnapped by two dogs, the determined Shar-pei Roland (Brett Goldstein) and the cunning whippet Nolan (Bowen Yang).

Garfield and Odie are taken to an old, abandoned building where Garfield encounters a familiar voice—that of his father, Vic (Samuel L. Jackson). But the plot thickens when it’s revealed that an irate Persian cat named Jinx (Hannah Waddingham) is behind their abduction. Jinx has a vendetta against Vic and plans to use Garfield and Odie to settle her score. She promises to forgive Vic if they can bring her something she desperately desires.

The trio sets off to Lactose Farms, a place known for its precious white liquid gold—milk. Here, they meet Otto (Rhames), who holds the key to getting them inside. Their mission won’t be easy, as Marge (Cecily Strong), the farm’s head of security, has her own agenda and is determined to maintain tight control over the premises. Father and son must reconcile their past differences to achieve their goal and return home safely.

Chris Pratt’s portrayal of Garfield brings a fresh vocal energy to the character, with a fast-paced and more talkative approach that stands out. Samuel L. Jackson as Vic provides a compelling counterpart with his trademark witty banter. Their dynamic creates an engaging father-son narrative that adds depth to the story. Nicholas Hoult as Jon perfectly embodies the role of a caring pet owner who cherishes his quirky pet family.

Hannah Waddingham shines as Jinx, channeling the essence of the cunning Siamese cats from “The Aristocats,” but with her own unique twist and an English accent. Rhames as Otto is initially reserved but commands attention when necessary. Brett Goldstein and Bowen Yang excel as Jinx’s henchmen, bringing humor and ingenuity to their roles despite their smaller stature.

Cecily Strong’s Marge is a formidable adversary, showcasing intelligence, agility, and dedication to her job. Her character adds an extra layer of challenge for Garfield and his team. Special mention goes to Harvey Guillen’s portrayal of Odie, who proves to be the heart of the film with his unwavering loyalty and intuitive understanding of Garfield’s needs.

The supporting cast includes Dev Joshi as Liz, Luke White as Vito, Alicia Turrell as Ethel, Janelle James as Olivia, and Snoop Dogg voicing a blue Maine Coon. Each character brings their unique flair to the story, enriching the overall experience.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment continues to excel in delivering quality content across various platforms. With studios like Columbia Pictures, Screen Gems, TriStar Pictures, Sony Pictures Animation, Stage 6 Films, and Sony Pictures Classics under its banner, there is always something exciting on the horizon. Special features for THE GARFIELD MOVIE include a Gag Reel, Easter Eggs: Garnishes a la Garfield, Deleted Scenes – Animatic featuring Hannah Waddingham, Indoor Cat Outdoor Adventure, Cast of Critters, How-to-Draw Garfield, Odie, Vic and More, Animation Reels, and Gallery.

While different from previous versions, THE GARFIELD MOVIE stands out with its action-packed storyline, humor, and charm. Fans of Bill Murray’s 2004 portrayal might have their favorites, but Chris Pratt’s Garfield offers a new take that resonates with today’s audience. Jim Davis’ creation continues to bring joy since its comic strip debut in 1976.

This Labor Day weekend, gather the family for an entertaining movie night with Garfield and friends. Enjoy the antics of this beloved cat and his faithful friend Odie. So grab some popcorn, relax, and share laughs with your loved ones. THE GARFIELD MOVIE is sure to provide an unforgettable family experience at home.
