JDT Begins AFC Champions League Campaign with Thrilling 2-2 Draw

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 (Bernama) — Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) faced a challenging start in their inaugural Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League Elite (ACLE) 2024/25 campaign, resulting in a thrilling 2-2 draw against Shanghai Port FC in China today.

The Southern Tigers, under the guidance of coach Hector Bidoglio, showcased their determination early on. The breakthrough came in first-half added time when Arif Aiman Mohd Hanapi found the back of the net at the Pudong Football Stadium, putting JDT in the lead. Arif Aiman’s goal highlighted his sharp attacking instincts and gave JDT a crucial advantage heading into halftime.

However, Shanghai Port FC, renowned for their resilience and tactical prowess, quickly responded. Just three minutes into the second half, Gustavo Henrique da Silva Sousa leveled the score, demonstrating the home team’s ability to bounce back under pressure. This equalizer underscored Gustavo Henrique’s consistent performance as a key player for Shanghai Port.
