Coinfest Asia 2024: A Celebration of Crypto Innovation and Adoption in Bali

Beach, Bali, booze, blockchain—these four elements are the cornerstone of Coinfest Asia, making it the most distinctive and enjoyable crypto conference of the year. As the crypto industry increasingly aligns with the formalities of Wall Street, one might wonder if Coinfest has lost its vibrant essence. Fortunately, our third consecutive attendance at the event confirms that traditional finance (TradFi) has not diluted the festival’s spirit.

Hosted in the picturesque Nuanu City, Bali, Coinfest Asia 2024 saw an impressive turnout of over 6,000 participants from around the world. This marks a significant 50% increase in annual attendance—from 2,000 in its inaugural year in 2022 to 4,000 in 2023, and now over 6,000 in 2024.

Under the theme “Where Innovation Meets Adoption,” Coinfest Asia 2024 assembled more than 150 global experts in crypto and Web3, facilitating 100-panel discussions and numerous side events. The event fostered over 25,000 meaningful connections, propelling business opportunities and innovation to new heights.

“This year, market conditions are significantly more favorable, and participant engagement has been remarkably higher. We introduced more interactive panel sessions, enabling direct interaction between attendees and speakers. Additionally, we designed the event to be more immersive, incorporating activities tailored to various audiences, including gamers and developers,” explained Felita Setiawan, COO of Indonesia Crypto Network.

Reflecting on last year’s experience, which fell short of expectations compared to 2022, we had noted, “We went to Coinfest on a budget and got Coinfest on a budget… but it was still the best crypto event of 2023 so far.” However, Coinfest 2024, held during a bull market, restored our faith in the festival and its participants. Free from TradFi’s constraints, Bali’s crypto scene was back in full swing, showcasing its raw, unfiltered vibrancy.

Key discussion points included identifying predictable patterns in market chaos, distinguishing between lasting trends and fleeting fads, adjusting investment strategies in light of global economic events, and discerning market sentiment from market manipulation.

BRN’s lead research analyst Valentin Fournier moderated a notable panel on “The LSD Effect of Liquid (Re)Staking,” featuring distinguished panelists like Daniel Anthony Wong from Pendle and Andy Cho from Frax Finance.

Loyal Blockhead readers might recall our visit to Yat Siu’s suite during last year’s Coinfest. This year, we hosted the Animoca Brands co-founder on our podcast series, Blockcast. Since our last conversation, the crypto industry has seen an influx of TradFi capital, boosted by Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs. We discussed how this renewed interest impacts traditional Web3 projects like the metaverse and blockchain gaming.

Yat Siu shared insights on how TradFi can complement Web3 facets and how Animoca Brands is adapting to new market demands while meeting long-term objectives. We also explored why Saudi Arabia merits attention from the crypto industry and how regional developments are shaping the landscape.

On the ground at Coinfest, Blockhead captured participants’ experiences for a special episode of Blockcast. We interviewed attendees to discover their activities beyond partying.

Looking ahead to Coinfest Asia 2025, we’re already preparing for another exhilarating event. Starting January 2025, Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK) will take over regulatory oversight of the crypto industry from BAPPEBTI, promising a more stable environment for crypto and Web3 sectors.

Coinfest Asia 2025 aims to double this year’s participation and elevate the event further. “We intend to introduce enhanced interactive experiences, welcome more global industry leaders, and expand networking opportunities to meet growing demand for Web3 technologies in Asia,” stated Felita Setiawan.

Expect a mix of panel discussions, fireside chats, workshops, along with food, drinks, and ample networking time. For those interested in wellness activities like ice baths, bringing a change of clothes is recommended!

The event will run from 9 am to 8 pm on Tuesday, 17 September. For a detailed schedule and registration details, click here.
