Court Denies Bail for Accused in Mynagappally Scooter Murder Case

KOLLAM: The Sasthamkotta court has rejected the bail plea of Dr. Sreekutty, who stands accused in the tragic murder case involving a scooter rider in Mynagappally. This decision comes as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident, where the court aims to ensure that justice is served promptly and effectively. The court will deliberate on the plea to take the accused into custody tomorrow, during which Dr. Sreekutty and her co-accused Ajmal will be presented.

The authorities have initiated a move to take both Ajmal, the primary accused, and Dr. Sreekutty, the secondary accused, into custody to facilitate comprehensive evidence collection and other procedural necessities. Earlier, the Sasthamkotta court had remanded both individuals in judicial custody for a period of 14 days, during which they have been charged with culpable homicide. Law enforcement is also investigating whether the accused were under the influence of alcohol or chemical drugs at the time of the incident.

The case revolves around Kunjumol, a resident of Mynagappally, who tragically lost her life after being struck by a car driven by Ajmal. Following the collision, Ajmal and Dr. Sreekutty, who was accompanying him, fled the scene, allegedly driving over Kunjumol’s body as they escaped. In light of these events, Dr. Sreekutty has been dismissed from her temporary position as a doctor at Karunagappally Valiyath Hospital in Kollam.

This incident has sparked significant public outcry and has drawn attention to issues such as road safety and the influence of substances on driving behavior. The investigation continues as authorities seek to gather all necessary evidence to ensure a thorough and just legal process.
