Film Heritage Foundation Celebrates Salim-Javed with Special Screening of Sholay

The Film Heritage Foundation (FHF) paid tribute to the legendary screenwriting duo Salim-Javed by hosting an exclusive screening of a nearly 50-year-old vintage 70 mm cinemascope print of the iconic blockbuster Sholay (1975). This extraordinary event took place on August 31st at the historic Regal Cinema in Mumbai, drawing scores of fans and film enthusiasts. The evening was graced by the presence of Salim-Javed themselves, adding an extra layer of nostalgia and reverence to the celebration.

The screening at Regal Cinema offered a rare and evocative experience, transporting attendees back to the 1970s. It provided a unique opportunity to witness Sholay, a film that epitomizes the defiance and bold storytelling of Salim-Javed. Esteemed guests such as Shabana Azmi, Zoya Akhtar, Vikramaditya Motwane, Siddharth Roy Kapur, and Aditya Roy Kapur were in attendance, further elevating the significance of this special evening.

This event occurred shortly after the highly anticipated launch of Prime Video’s Original Docuseries “Angry Young Men,” produced by Salman Khan Films, Excel Media & Entertainment, and Tiger Baby. The docuseries chronicles the unparalleled impact of Salim-Javed on Hindi cinema, exploring their role in crafting some of the most iconic characters of the 1970s. At the screening, Salim-Javed, along with Namrata Rao, director of “Angry Young Men,” addressed the enthusiastic crowd, who greeted them with resounding whistles and applause.

The screening was free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis, allowing attendees to relive the magic of Sholay on the silver screen. This event also highlighted the enduring legacy of Salim-Javed, as showcased in the “Angry Young Men” docuseries.

Originally released in 1975, Sholay is one of Bollywood’s most celebrated films. Featuring an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, and Amjad Khan, Sholay is renowned for its timeless dialogues, unforgettable characters, and groundbreaking action sequences. The film stands as a testament to Salim-Javed’s masterful storytelling, cementing their status as legends in Hindi cinema.

Founded by Shivendra Singh Dungarpur in 2014, the Film Heritage Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving and restoring India’s cinematic history. Recent initiatives by FHF include a Bachchan Retrospective and the re-release of the 1976 classic Manthan across 50 cities and 100 cinemas.

Produced by Salman Khan Films, Excel Media & Entertainment, and Tiger Baby, “Angry Young Men” is executive produced by Salma Khan, Salman Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, and Reema Kagti. This three-part docuseries masterfully captures the personal and professional journey of Salim-Javed and is now available for streaming exclusively on Prime Video in India and over 240 countries and territories worldwide.
