India in Favorable Position Against Bangladesh: Yashasvi Jaiswal

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 19 (ANI): India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal expressed confidence on Thursday, stating that the hosts are currently in a favorable position against Bangladesh in the ongoing Chennai Test.

Yashasvi delivered a steady performance, scoring 56 runs off 118 balls at a strike rate of 47.46, including nine boundaries. Reflecting on his innings during the post-day press conference, he noted that the ball was “moving and seaming” initially at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, which also had a slightly damp pitch.

Yashasvi acknowledged the efforts of the Bangladesh bowlers, commending their disciplined bowling attack. “Initially, the ball was moving and seaming a bit, and the wicket was a bit damp, so we took our time. However, in the last session, we managed to score quite well. I believe we are in a good position at the moment. The weather was cloudy at the start, providing some assistance to the bowlers. Yes, they bowled well, but we also capitalized on loose deliveries,” Yashasvi remarked.

The match saw Bangladesh winning the toss and opting to bowl first in the series opener against India. The Indian team faced early setbacks with their top order crumbling to 34/3. Yashasvi Jaiswal (56 off 118 balls) and Rishabh Pant (39 off 52 balls) built a crucial 62-run partnership for the fourth wicket, stabilizing India’s innings momentarily. Despite this effort, India found themselves in trouble again at 144/6.

However, a remarkable unbeaten partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin turned the tide for India. Jadeja scored an impressive 86* off 117 balls, hitting ten fours and two sixes, while Ashwin remained unbeaten with a century. Their combined effort of 195 runs lifted India to a stronger position, ending the day at 339/6.

Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud emerged as the standout bowler, claiming four wickets for 58 runs. He played a pivotal role in dismantling India’s top order by dismissing captain Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0), and Virat Kohli (6).

Bangladesh’s Playing XI includes Shadman Islam, Zakir Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto (C), Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das (Wk), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, and Nahid Rana.

India’s Playing XI comprises Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant (Wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, and Mohammed Siraj. (ANI)
