Nagaland Wushu Team Heads to 33rd Senior National Championship

DIMAPUR — In an exciting development for sports enthusiasts in Nagaland, a team of five Wushu fighters, accompanied by three dedicated officials, departed from Dimapur on Friday to participate in the prestigious 33rd Senior National Wushu Championship. The championship, set to be held from September 21 to 26, will take place at the renowned Maharana Pratap Stadium in Raipur, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, as announced by the Nagaland Wushu Association.

Leading the charge is head coach Neizouvotuo Khusoh, whose expertise and strategic acumen have been instrumental in preparing the team. Assisting him is RK Shanti Kumar Singh, bringing his own wealth of experience to the table as an assistant coach. The managerial responsibilities are deftly handled by Azhove Resu, ensuring that the team’s logistics and administrative needs are met seamlessly.

The athletes representing Nagaland in the Sanda event span various weight categories, showcasing their versatility and preparedness. Vipu Zhimomi will compete in the 52 kg category, while Mankho T Konyak takes on opponents in the 56 kg category. Nupa Kiho is set to battle in the 60 kg category, with Lichonthung Odyuo representing in the 65 kg category. Yoto Chizo rounds out the lineup by competing in the 70 kg category.

These athletes are not just competing for medals; they are vying for a chance to represent Nagaland in the National Games. A top-eight finish at the national championship would secure them this coveted opportunity. According to coach Neizouvotuo Khusoh, the team’s intensive preparation camp has been highly successful. He expressed optimism about their chances of clinching a medal, highlighting that their prospects remain strong provided they avoid injuries.

Adding to the morale boost, Küdecho Khamo, the President and Advisor of CAWD and Taxes, has publicly extended his unwavering support and best wishes to the team. His encouragement underscores the significance of this championship not only for the athletes but also for the broader community in Nagaland.

As these fighters step onto the national stage, they carry with them the hopes and aspirations of their state. Their rigorous training, strategic planning, and collective determination will undoubtedly be put to the test as they strive to bring glory to Nagaland.
