FC Goa Secures 1-1 Draw Against Mohammedan Sporting in ISL

Kolkata, Sep 21 (SocialNews.XYZ) FC Goa managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Mohammedan Sporting Club at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan on Saturday, marking the hosts’ first point in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season. This match continued the trend of late injury-time goals seen in the first two weeks of the season.

Throughout the game, Mohammedan Sporting controlled the tempo and exhibited dominance. They initially took the lead in the 66th minute with Alexis Gomez’s precise penalty kick. However, FC Goa equalized during stoppage time when Armando Sadiku capitalized on a well-placed cross from Aakash Sangwan, ensuring both teams walked away with a point.

Analyzing the match statistics, Mohammedan Sporting had 31 touches inside FC Goa’s penalty box, significantly higher than FC Goa’s 10 touches. The hosts also created 17 scoring opportunities, with Carlos Franca and Alexis Gomez contributing three chances each. This showcased their offensive prowess compared to their performance against NorthEast United FC.

In the early stages of the match, Franca had a clear chance in the 12th minute but failed to convert from close range. Shortly after, he facilitated a one-two pass to create space for Lalremsanga, only for FC Goa’s Nim Dorjee to make a crucial interception.

Franca remained a constant threat throughout the match, making dynamic runs and testing the opposition’s defense. His most notable effort came in the first half when he skillfully evaded his marker and unleashed a powerful shot that rattled the crossbar.

The second half mirrored the first, with Mohammedan Sporting maintaining their aggressive approach. Franca initiated a swift counterattack, outmaneuvering Odei Onaindia and forcing FC Goa’s goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani into action with a long-range shot.

The breakthrough for Mohammedan Sporting came in the 62nd minute when they were awarded a penalty after Onaindia fouled Franca inside the box. Alexis Gomez stepped up and confidently converted the spot-kick, giving his team their first ISL goal of the season.

FC Goa refused to relent and found their equalizer in stoppage time. Armando Sadiku’s precise header from an Aakash Sangwan cross ensured the visitors left with a hard-earned point.

Looking ahead, Mohammedan Sporting will face Chennaiyin FC in an away game on September 26. Meanwhile, FC Goa is set to compete against East Bengal FC in Kolkata on September 27.
