Top Four Asian Hockey Teams Set for Semifinals Clash at Asian Champions Trophy

Moqi (China): The stage is meticulously set for the crucial semifinals of the Asian Champions Trophy, with the top four hockey powerhouses – India, Pakistan, China, and Korea – gearing up for an intense showdown tomorrow at the enchanting Moqi Hockey Training Base, nestled within the China Daur Ethnic Park in Hulunbuir.

As the defending champions, India will clash with Korea in what promises to be a riveting second semifinal. Meanwhile, hosts China will face their formidable rivals, Pakistan, in the first semifinal of the day. Adding to the excitement, Malaysia and Japan will compete in the opening match on Monday to determine the 5th and 6th positions.

India has showcased an exceptional performance throughout the tournament, emerging as the only unbeaten team. Their journey has been marked by commanding victories over China (3-0), Japan (5-1), Malaysia (8-1), Korea (3-1), and a closely contested win against Pakistan (2-1). As the reigning Asian Games Gold medallists and current Asian Champions Trophy titleholders, India is brimming with confidence as they prepare for their semifinal face-off against Korea.

Reflecting on their journey, India captain Harmanpreet Singh shared insights into their campaign. “We entered this tournament with minimal rest and preparation following our Olympic stint. Despite these challenges, I’m pleased with our progress to the semifinal stage. Sunday’s training session was productive, and the team’s spirits are high. Korea is a formidable opponent known for their strong defense and swift, skillful counter-attacks,” stated Singh.

Addressing their previous match against Pakistan, the seasoned drag-flicker noted the importance of overcoming initial jitters. “There were some nerves during our match against Pakistan, especially after they scored. It was a learning experience for our younger players facing Pakistan for the first time. Tomorrow, our focus will be on our own game, but it will also be intriguing to see how Pakistan performs against China,” added Singh, who made a significant impact by scoring twice in India’s victory over Pakistan.

With anticipation building, fans eagerly await these high-stakes encounters that will determine who advances to the final of the Asian Champions Trophy.
