Second Edition of State Women’s Football Championship Kicks Off in Leparada District

BASAR, 16 Sep: The much-anticipated second edition of the State Women’s Football Championship kicked off with great enthusiasm in Leparada district on Monday. This year, the championship is being meticulously organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) and graciously hosted by the Leparada District Football Association (LDFA). Teams from eight diverse districts have come together to showcase their skills and passion for the beautiful game.

In his opening address, Women’s Football Committee chairman Gebin Kato passionately urged everyone to lend their unwavering support and encouragement to the young girls participating in the tournament. He expressed profound gratitude towards the LDFA and the local administration for their invaluable support in nurturing and promoting women’s football within the state, acknowledging their pivotal role in hosting this prestigious championship.

Before the inaugural match commenced, a poignant moment of silence was observed to honor the memory of late Pani Raju, a former national-level player from Arunachal who tragically passed away on 15 September. This heartfelt tribute set a respectful tone for the commencement of the matches.

The championship’s first match witnessed an intense face-off between defending champions East Kameng and Upper Subansiri. Demonstrating superior skill and teamwork, East Kameng emerged victorious with a 3-1 win. Kapke Kamsa was the star of the match, scoring twice in the 23rd and 72nd minutes, while Osi Pegu added another goal in the 75th minute. Upper Subansiri’s lone goal was netted by Giani Ramching Mara early in the 8th minute, providing a brief lead.

In the second match of the day, host team Leparada delivered a stellar performance against Lower Subansiri, securing a commanding 5-1 victory. Ninobi Degu made headlines by becoming the first player to score a hat-trick in this year’s championship, with goals in the 14th, 59th, and 64th minutes. Chiyir Lombi further solidified Leparada’s dominance with a brace, while Chukhu Macher scored a consolation goal for Lower Subansiri in the 78th minute.

The inaugural matches were graced by the presence of Basar EAC Mary N Taloh and RFO Omang Moyong Bam, along with dignitaries from APFA, various district football associations, district administration officials, and representatives from numerous NGOs. Their attendance underscored the collective commitment towards advancing women’s football in Arunachal Pradesh.

This year’s championship promises to be a thrilling display of talent and sportsmanship, as teams from across the state compete for glory and recognition on this esteemed platform.
